Another fic rec, because this is my life.

Title: The Progress of Sherlock Holmes by ivyblossom
Fandom: Sherlock
Pairing: Sherlock/John, John/Mary
Rating: R/NC-17 overall (although it takes 15 marvelous chapters to get there!)
Length: ~62k

Using first person for Sherlock’s point of view is a daring feat, and frankly not a challenge most fic writers are up to. This is different. The writing is staccato and precise without being overly clinical, a perfect Sherlock voice that narrates John’s rather complicated marital venture with a serial adulterer - made rather more complicated by their own unresolved feelings for each other. I was initially concerned about Mary’s characterization but she is handled gracefully and, in the end, not unkindly.

“You can divide the world into two kinds of people (were you so inclined); the people who are uncomfortable and/or afraid at the idea that I can determine most (if not all) of the major themes of their lives within the first two minutes of our acquaintance, and those who relish it. The latter group is very small. So far it consists of one.”
